Sacred Journey
A Transformative Barge Journey on the Mekong Delta
The Mekong Delta journey is a tapestry of Dharma and natural beauty, offering participants a rare opportunity to walk the path of mindfulness along one of the world’s most storied rivers. Join us aboard the elegant barge, RV Toum Tiou II for a Sacred Journey; a transformative retreat through the heart of Cambodia and Viet Nam, where inner stillness and outer discovery flow together.
The quality of our experiencing is deeply influenced by how we understand and engage with what is continually arising in our awareness. From a non-dual view, our ordinary daily life is inseparable from always present open awareness. This simultaneity invites us to engage intimately in our messy human lives as they are. With practice we might become familiar with always finding ourselves in the groundless middle of irresolvable contradictory experiencing. We want the peace of acceptance and we want the benefit of improvement. We want to protect our vivid sense of being a significant self and we never find this objectively existing self… Bruce Tift
Join Us on this Fascinating Journey
Hello,
When Franco and Kay, out of the blue, invited me to teach for this retreat, openness suddenly arose. Surprise, doubt, excitement. My intention and hope is that this retreat will be a continuing return to moments of openness, with all the complex feelings that come with this fresh not-knowing.
I invite you to help co-create an environment of authenticity, with the understanding that unconditional openness means that it’s just as valid to have boundaries and choose not to show our vulnerability as it is to share our difficult experiencing. This will be a unique opportunity, and if it speaks to you I hope you’ll join us…Bruce

Introducing Our Presenters & Hosts
BRUCE TIFT Presenter/Teacher
I have been in private practice since 1979, for many years as an LMFT, and now as a consultant. I taught at Naropa University for twenty-five years, worked in a psychiatric ward and as a family therapist with social services. In my twenties, I traveled for two years by motorcycle in Europe, North Africa, and overland to India and Nepal, where I first discovered Tibetan Buddhist teachings. I have worked as a laborer, clerk, postal worker, longshoreman, painter, truck driver, paper mill worker, and miner. I am the author of Already Free: Buddhism meets Psychotherapy on the Path of Liberation.
My teachers have been my wife, Reva, my three daughters, the people I have worked with, and reality, which has consistently refused to become my preferences. For the last fifteen years, cancer and my aging body have also taught me a lot. I have had the good fortune to have been a student of Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche, and to have met a number of realized teachers.
REVA TIFT Presenter
I am an old person, and I have found it incredibly interesting and life-giving to be as intimate as possible with the experience of aging and moving towards death. I have worked as a psychotherapist for more than 40 years. My special focus for sometime has been helping people with their experience of grief and loss. I have found that engaging directly with our fears around aging and death actually frees us to live in the present with more openheartedness and gratitude.

Some feedback from our latest barge journey in Belgium
“The trip was lovely, and we enjoyed it very much. The crew was attentive and extremely talented in a variety of ways, the ship was clean and comfortable, the food was excellent. The two of you were very helpful and generous. We very much appreciate all that you did for us on this trip and the opportunity to join you.”
Everything about the barge was terrific. The crew was outstanding and incredibly accommodating. The crew members did so much to make it a memorable experience. The one expectation I had coming in was that the food would be amazing, and the chef exceeded that expectation. The cabin itself impressed me with its use of space, such that our things all had their place, and it never felt cramped.

— The logistical support during the trip was outstanding, particularly since it seemed as though there were some adjustments made as we went along. Managing those kinds of changes cannot have been simple, yet it felt very smooth from our end.
— The excursions were a lot of fun, and gave a great overview of a country about which I knew little. In fact, the only thing I knew about Belgium coming in was that I wanted to see Bruges. That tour was the highlight of the excursions for me, combining site-seeing, history, and the brewery. Getting to Bruges early in the morning, and before the crowds, was a treat. I also especially liked our distillery and winery guides. They both offered a lot of unique information, and were engaging hosts. Having free time at each location to pursue our own interests was great, as we all have our own way of engaging with new places.
— I thought breaking up the days between sessions and excursions worked very well. It’s difficult to compare what we did in this respect with the single-site trips that you have organized previously, but I thought it was a great way to split our time.
— More than anything, I appreciated the time to get to know the other folks on the trip. Being on a small ship with everybody for the week afforded us the opportunity for meaningful one-on-one conversations with everyone. Learning about the different experiences, careers, and perspectives of each person was an unexpected pleasure, and yet I still felt like there was so much more to hear. What a great group of people, and I can’t imagine how else I would have had a chance to meet any of them.
Thanks again for having me on the trip, and I hope to catch you both the next time you are in Denver! Sean L.
“Since coming back from our journey, we have thought a lot about how to be a better friend to ourselves, our family, and to others in our lives. We came back and almost immediately renewed some old acquaintances and have made it a point to spend time with people who enrich our lives and who make the world a better place simply by being in it. This fills us with joy and renews our energy and faith in the goodness of the world.”

- The trip, your generosity, and Mark’s poetry and reminders of self-care, heart, and love came at a good time and were well-received.
- I have taken this opportunity to think long and hard about the language we use, how it shapes us and the way we view the world around us, and how it impacts the image we project into the world. Language is a powerful thing, and we often forget that as we move through our busy day. I am working hard to choose my words carefully, both internally and externally, so I can be a good friend to myself and others.
“I really feel that what you two are doing and creating is very meaningful and important. “Traveling with Purpose” is the perfect summary, and I do feel I am home here in Chicago sharing what I learned & saw, and * lighting other candles *. Before the trip I felt slightly misaligned with my lifestyle, and since returning I feel reconnected with the ever-present (but sometimes forgotten) beauty of life and an easy flow of energy.”

My experience on the barge was superlative. I really couldn’t be more appreciative of the gang for their warmth, patience, (hilarity) and professional conduct. The meals were outrageous.
The support from you all prior to the journey was excellent — very clear communication. kind. I’m utterly impressed by how both of you are able to immediately/directly/clearly handle and communicate logistics.
The excursions were wonderful, stimulating and inspiring. They paired wonderfully with the sessions as the two endeavors seemed to highlight one another.
I appreciated the amount of downtime we had as well. We did plenty during the day but there was always a good amount of time to relax and reflect.
I had a smashing time and learned a lot on the way and I can’t overemphasize how welcome of a reset this trip was. I would love to stay connected with you both… perhaps another adventure in the future!
